The Health and Medicine Division conducts research and development on health and medical related subjects that may be of interest to individuals, researchers, the health care industry, government agencies, and others. This includes research on all of the subjects indicated by the research centers below, as well as, other specialized subjects in the health and medical fields.
One of the primary goals of the Health and Medicine Division is to determine through evidence based medical research, the efficacy, safety, and quality of the many Western complementary, alternative, and integrative medicine therapies, as well as, the efficacy, safety, and quality of the many traditional medicine therapies that have been practiced for centuries in cultures around the world. There are many such therapies that Western physicians and researchers know nothing about. For example, there is a database in Shanghai, China, with over 150,000 different herbal remedy recipes for almost every known disease, most of which have never been tested in formal field trials.
What a great human tragedy of suffering and lives lost it is, if there are treatments in that database or other traditional medicine practices that are effective, but remain unresearched and undeveloped. For example, the Chinese have been using the plant Artemisinin for thousands of years to treat malaria, but only around the year 2000 was it finally approved by the WHO as part of the standard combo treatment of malaria used worldwide. The WISE Health and Medicine Division seeks to change this situation, and will do whatever possible to make sure that all potential medical therapies, wherever they exist in the world, are properly researched and investigated to determine their efficacy and safety in treating human diseases and disorders, as well as, enhancing health and well being.
Two of this Division’s many objectives are to translate the Chinese database, and to create a comprehensive database that has all complementary, alternative, and traditional medicine therapies, as well as, all medicinal plants and natural substances, recipes, and other non-standard therapies used for treatment of diseases or the enhancement of health anywhere in the world.
